Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's attempts at popular recognition were unsuccessful. Before new material was released two labels signed, then removed Perry. Capitol Records, however, released Perry's Ur So Gay album in 2007, which received moderate success for the album's title track. I kissed a Girl - an ode of sexual curiosity - was released several months later. The track featured a raunchy electro-pop style and an assertive position. The track sparked debate, with some critics accusing it of encouraging the same-sex relationship and others claiming that the sexually explicit situation depicted in the song was intended for sexual fantasies of males. I Kissed a Girl, a combination of titillation coupled with a sophisticated melody, helped I Kissed a Girl to become a hit number one in a variety of countries, and to drive sales of her 2008 album, One of the Boys. Hot N Cold, Perry's energetic and sharply-tongued record with the second single that became a hit, also proved popular. The album which Perry created herself sold more than three million copies.
